The Mine Bay Rock Carvings created by master carver Matahi Whakataka-Brightwell in the 1970s are an unexpected lakeside delight. The carvings depict Ngatoroirangi, a visionary Maori navigator who guided the Tuwharetoa and Te Arawa tribes to the Taupo area over a thousand years ago.
